APPEARANCE
Amber malt provides a rich red characteristic to the look of this bottle-conditioned beer.
AROMA
1845 is characterised by liqueur-like flavors and fruit notes that are very prominent on the nose. It could be described as a rich Christmas cake with cherry, dried fruit and raisins all prominent in the aroma. In this beer the hops provide a slight nutmeg and spicy nose. Brown bread, chocolate and toffee flavors all come from the malt that is used in this brew.
FLAVOR
Malt characters such as treacle, toffee, brown bread and chocolate dominate the initial flavors. The citrus fruit flavors become more evident on the taste and provide an orange peel and grapefruit pith element to the beer. The rich Christmas cake character noted on the aroma appears on the tongue with a clove spice, peppery taste. 1845 is lively on the tongue and very reminiscent of a chocolate liqueur.
AFTERTASTE
The powerful notes of fruitcake, spices, chocolate and fresh brown bread provide a satisfying warming linger."A magnificent russet coloured ale with a fine balance of malt and hop flavors, with spicy amber and peppery Goldings hops and nutty."
